NTR UniversityJagan Mohan Reddy Government passed a bill in the state assembly in September last year changing the name of NTR Health University. NT Ramarao was the founder and chairman of the university that was founded in 1986.

The institution was the brainchild of NTR who had launched it through a piece of legislation – AP University of Health Sciences Act, 1986. This was the first health university in India

The University was renamed after YSR after the Chief Minister felt his father deserved it because of his service to the Health sector of the state. The move got so much criticism as people asked why Jagan can not construct something new and name it after his father.

Meanwhile, the state government got shocked when the National Medical Commission Medical Assessment & Rating Board (NMC-MARB) was notified on April 21, 2023, according to approval for the admission of 150 students to a new Government Medical College set up at Nandyal.

While the sanctioning of the medical seats has delighted the Government, NMC-MARB notifying the college under Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences has come as a big shock.

The Government is planning to send a senior official to Delhi to pursue the name change of the University.

They just hope it is a clerical error and the Central Government is not stopping the name change in the name of one reason or the other.
