With Central Government reluctant to change the contractor of Polavaram Project, Andhra Pradesh government is looking at other option to speed up the project works. The plan is to have a new contractor for headworks of the project.
But that will incur an additional burden of 2000 Crore and the center had already clarified that the state government had to bear this loss. In the wake of the project importance and no other options, the state government is ready to take up this.
Polavaram Multi-Purpose Irrigation Project comes with a total capacity of 194 TMC which will irrigate about Five Lakh Acres over Two Crops Every year. The Project will also generate 960MW of Hydel Power which is the cheapest available power in the market right now. Hence the project is said to be very beneficial for the state and is treated as the ‘Life Line’.
