Central Home Ministry’s Personnel Department has asked the ministry to refuse the Kapu Reservations Bill cleared by the Andhra Pradesh Assembly citing a Supreme Court’s order that the reservations cannot be more than 50%.
This will add to the Political Turmoil of Andhra Pradesh as Kapu Strongman Mudragada Padmanabham has set a deadline for the state government to implement the Reservations by March 31st or face the heat of their agitation.
Since the new reservations increase the quota more than the prescribed 50%. It needs to be placed in Section 9 of the constitution to make it immune from Judicial Interference. But then, the BJP led Central Government is not interested since it would give rise to new problems in the other states.
