Center Gives Clarity About AP Capital In ParliamentThe issue of Andhra Pradesh’s capital was mentioned in the Rajya Sabha. In the Rajya Sabha, MP GVL Narasimha Rao asked the Center to clarify who has the power to decide the capital. He also asked ‘Which is the capital of Andhra Pradesh?’

Responding to this, the Minister Of State (Home Affairs) Nithyanandarai clarified that Amaravati is the capital of Andhra Pradesh. He also added that the decision on capital is up to the state government. “According to the information available to us, the capital of AP is Amravati,” the minister said on behalf of the Center.

For more than a year, the farmers who gave lands for the capital have been agitating to retain Amaravati as the capital. The Government which pressed for the three capitals has withdrawn the bills pertaining to them in November saying that they will bring the bills in a better form and with wider consultations.

As of now, there is no update on anything about them. At least, there is nothing in the public domain.
