The central government is giving an indications that Special Status for Andhra Pradesh is difficult and instead it will give Special Package on par with the Special Status benefits. However there is a confusion if the center can be trusted on this issue. Firstly the center is citing technical issues to give Special package, but it is lying for some reason. Special Status at best is a political decision which can be easily taken since BJP as well as Congress is supporting it.
On the other side, if the Center announces a big fat package of some 50000 Crore, it still can not be trusted. Because there is always a good chance of delaying the release of funds. Remember the Prime Minister himself announced 1000 Crore assistance during Hudhud Cyclone but ended up giving some 400 odd Crore. If Special Status can be ignored on the sole reason of it being not in the act, Special Package can also be ignored in coming days.
Will the BJP government have the commitment to introduce this special package in Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act by bringing an amendment? They have done it in the past for merging of Khammam mandals to Andhra Pradesh. Anyways this Special Status issue is a test for BJP’s integrity and commitment.
