tELANGANA aSSEMBLYTelangana Assembly had dedicated a full day to discuss the serious issue of farmers suicides but looks like no good is coming out of that as all parties are indulged more in the blame game. Telangana Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy read out a list of his government’s allocations to agriculture and later ended up the issue blaming failed monsoon and previous governments for ignoring to complete major projects.

Congress, the main opposition party alleged that the government’s failure to implement to loan waiver and not announcing drought affected mandals as the reason for the increasing farmers suicides. Congress MLA Jeevan Rao highlighted issues like purchasing Paddy from IKP centers and free power to agriculture as Congress achievements.

TDP Leader of the house, Errabelli Dayakara Rao reminded the house that resorting blame game on old governments will take the issue no where. He reminded that people have opted to vote for TRS to work better than previous governments. He asked governments to be prepared well in advance to counter drought. He also asked the government not to undermine farmers suicides by under-reporting the numbers. All in all, all the parties are using the discussion for political gains or defence but are not drilling in to identify ways to eradicate the suicides as well as make agriculture beneficial.
