YS Jagan Mohan ReddyIn what can be termed as very embarrassing for Andhra Pradesh Government, the Andhra Pradesh electricity regulatory commission has asked Discoms to disconnect services if the government doesn’t pay up Rs 9783 Crore pending dues within the next fourteen days.

These are the bills pending for power consumption by the local bodies and Government departments across Andhra Pradesh. “The situation looks alarming, to say the least, and the very survival of the Discoms is at stake,” the Electricity Regulatory Commission opined.

The commission has directed discoms to serve fresh notices to all the local bodies and government departments offering them the last chance to clear the pending dues within 14 days. Failing which the connections will be disconnected. It is highly unlikely Jagan Government can pay given that the government is already struggling to make both ends meet.

If discoms implement the ERC order, it will become news nationwide and will be a big embarrassment for the Government.
