Bangalore BlastsThis is not the first time, Bangalore city witnessed a low intensity explosion creating terror amongst the citizens. On Sunday evening, at around 8:30 p.m., a sudden explosion injured a woman by name Bhavani and the sharpnels from the blast injured two others near by. An IED (Improvised Explosive Device) was placed in front of a Kerala restaurant, Coconut Grove in Church Street in Bengaluru at around 7:30 p.m. wrapped in a plastic cover or cloth probably. Bhavani and family are walking towards Grand Street and that is when the IED blasted.

Immediately, all the three injured were taken to hospital but Bhavani who suffered severe skull injury succumbed and breathed her last at around 11:00 p.m. The other two are out of danger as per the latest available information. This low intensity explosion targeted during the new year’s eve seemingly meant to create terror and panic among Bangalorians who had witnessed such low intensity explosions earlier in 2005, 2008, 2010 and 2013.

After the explosion, the security of the city has been beefed up and thorough scanning and security check-ups are being taken up to ensure that the city recuperates to normalcy for New Year’s celebrations. Though no one claimed responsibility to this explosion, Bengalore police define it as the plan of terrorists in the wake of the arrest of Mehdi Masoor Biswas, a 24-year-old computer engineer who is accused of maintaining a pro-Islamic State Twitter account. Though the security measures had been increased, the threat still is lingering in the minds of people and the festivities are definitely going to suffer for the panic created.
