Atmakur by-election is necessitated due to the sudden demise of Mekapati Goutham Reddy.
TDP and Janasena had decided not to field a candidate since Goutham Reddy’s brother Vikram Reddy is YSR Congress’s candidate.
BJP is fielding a candidate and avoided a unanimous election.
YSR Congress wants to use this with no contest in sight the party eyes nothing less than one Lakh plus majority. It has deputed seven ministers and MLCs to oversee the election.
With the One Lakh majority, the ruling party wants to prove that it has the support of the people.
The majority can be achieved due to no contest and with the ruling party’s muscle.
Moreover, there is sympathy for Goutham Reddy in the people since he was a soft-spoken guy.
It is an easy guess why BJP is keen on contesting this election despite having no candidate or strength.
In the 2019 elections, Goutham Reddy won with a 22K vote majority. YSR Congress will boast of the increased majority.
