Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee who was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) earlier today and the authorities say it is for a routine checkup and his condition is stable now.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit AIIMS sometime today to inquire about Vajpayee’s health.
The 93-year-old Vajpayee is the oldest living former Prime Minister of India but has been politically inactive since suffering a stroke in 2009. The stroke had impaired his speech and had confined him to a wheelchair. The BJP leader was the first non-Congress Prime Minister to serve a full term, from 1999 to 2004.
He was recently conferred with the Bharat Ratna and the President had to go to his house to give the award. According to a bulletin released by AIIMS, A team of Doctors under the supervision of Dr Randeep Guleria, Director of AIIMS are conducting the necessary tests.
