Granting Seven National Level Educational Institutions to Andhra Pradesh is the biggest claim of Center whenever the issue of help to the state crops up. They say these institutions are already sanctioned and many of them have begun classes as well. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley even mentioned them prominently in the house during his reply to the short duration discussion on implementation of Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act.
However, AP HRD Minister, Ghanta Srinivasa Rao busted all these fat claims. Ghanta revealed that the center for far released only 171 Crore for seven of these institutions while AP government spent 459 Crore on them. The Very valuable land was acquired for these institutions which will run into 100s of Crore.
While Tirupati IIT needed 1030 Crore, Center just released 80 Crore. IISER got 80 Crore out of the 900 Crore estimate and Vishakapatnam IIM was given just 70 Crore for the total 900 Crore needed. At this rate, these institutions will easily take a decade to complete and will have to run in temporary accommodations with barely any staff.
