Andhra Pradesh Cabinet will meet tomorrow in Velagapudi Secretariat to ratify the High Power Committee Report which will recommend the trifurcation of the Capital. The Cabinet Meeting was intentionally preponed to avoid any last-minute legal hassles. Meanwhile, the State Government is gearing up to handle any form of dissent with an iron fist.
The Government had invoked the National Security Act in the State under which any person can be detained by the Police for three months without stating any reason. The Act also has provisions to extend the detention by another three months. This is an act that is normally invoked in the border states which are troubled by terrorism and radicalization.
Even the United Andhra Pradesh Governments did not invoke this act during the extreme conditions of the Telangana Agitation. This is an indication that the State Government wants the Capital Trifurcation at any cost without any dissent. Principal Opposition, TDP is gearing up for a legal fight against this particular G.O.
It has to be seen how the Center responds on this act which the Opposition in Andhra Pradesh calls Draconian Act.
