Even before the state capital is decided, Andhra Pradesh government wants to move some departments from Hyderabad to Vijayawada so as to make sure the administration takes place from AP itself. It is said that Chandra Babu instructed officials to identify the departments which need not operate from the common capital. Medha Towers opposite Gannavaram Airport will be used as temporary office. It was constructed during previous government regime to house IT companies.
Only 20000 sg feet of the total 200000 sq feet area is occupied in this towers. The remaining space will be used as temporary offices. Instructions are on to make any repairs and changes to this building to make it suitable for moving in. Government is also keen to use available government buildings for this purpose. It is said that Housing, Welfare, Forests, Panchayati Raj, Endowments departments can be shifted with immediate effect. Irrigation Minister Devineni Uma is already operating from Vijayawada. Engineering department in Roads and Buildings will also be shifted to Vijayawada.
