Megastar Chiranjeevi had launched his Praja Rajyam Party amid huge fanfare. Chiranjeevi declared himself as the contender for the Chief Minister position but his party fell flat. Later Praja Rajyam could not sustain beyond its first election.
Chiranjeevi merged the party with Congress and the rest is history. Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam seems to be treading a similar path. The party could not make an impact in the recent Tamil Nadu Assembly election.
Only Kamal Haasan gave a stiff contest in his Coimbatore South seat but lost it with a slender margin. After the electoral defeat of Makkal Needhi Maiam, the top brass of the party including its Vice-President are leaving the party one after the other.
They say Kamal is not open to their suggestions and is being influenced by some people. These developments reflect the happenings in Praja Rajyam Party back in those days. People on social media are doubting if MNM will perish like the Praja Rajyam Party.
