Andhra Pradesh Govt Makes Crucial Changes to Hamper Opposition in Local Polls?Ahead of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy‘s Delhi Tour, Andhra Pradesh Cabinet meeting happened in the Secretariat this morning. The Cabinet had taken crucial decisions over the upcoming local elections in the state. The cabinet had decided to amend the Panchayati Raj Act.

The Cabinet had decided to disqualify the candidate if he is caught distributing Liquor and cash during the election. The cabinet had also approved to decrease the campaigning time in the local elections. It has also decided to complete the local body elections and Municipal elections by March 15th.

“Rule of disqualifying a candidate for distributing booze and cash is good if implemented rightly. If the rule is used only for Opposition candidates and if the Ruling Party candidates are exempted, then the Government’s intentions will be doubted,” a Political Expert says.

TDP also sees the move to decrease the campaigning time as something which is aimed at not allowing sufficient preparation time for the Opposition. “The Ruling Party will have an advantage in local elections. They are trying to ensure that the Opposition is not prepared,” the party supporters say.
