Andhra Pradesh Cities Make A Comeback to Top-10 of Cleanliness SurveyThe government of India on Thursday announced the results of annual survey of cleanliness, Swachh Survekshan 2020. Two Cities of Andhra Pradesh – Vijayawada and Vishakapatnam have managed a place in the Top 10. This is the fifth edition of the survey that was introduced by PM Modi in January 2016.

After doing consistently well in previous surveys, cities of Andhra Pradesh missed out on the Top-10 in 2019. Now, Vijayawada is in the fourth position, and Vishakapatnam in the ninth position. Swachh Survekshan 2020 covered 4,242 cities, 62 cantonment boards, and 92 Ganga towns. This survey was carried out in 28 days.

The survey was introduced by the government with the objective of generating large-scale participation in Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. It also aims at inculcating a spirit of healthy competition among cities towards becoming India’s cleanest cities.

Sadly, no city from Telangana managed to find a spot in the Top-20.
