Rajya Sabha took up a Short Duration discussion on implementation of Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act a little while ago. Jairam Ramesh fired questions to the Center about the implementation of promises made to AP including the Special Status. All the parties in the state, including BSP, Trinamool Congress, CPI(M), Samajwadi Party, JD(U), BJD have all supported for Special Status to the truncated state.
Parties like TDP, YSR Congress and Congress naturally supported the demand for the obvious reasons. Surprisingly, TRS through Keshava Rao, also extended support to the issue strongly. It looked like a war zone with all parties on one side supporting Special Status to Andhra Pradesh, but BJP continues to be in denial mode.
The scene appeared like BJP is clearly cornered on the issue. Venkaiah who is usually an excellent orator struggled to defend his party’s stance and stammered for words. If the Private Member Bill put up by KVP Ramachandra Rao is put up for voting, BJP is likely due for a huge embarrassment.
