All-Five-Accused-in-Mecca-Masjid-Blast-Case-AcquittedAll the five accused in the 2007 Mecca Masjid Blast Case including Swami Aseemanand were acquitted by a Nampally Court in Hyderabad. Interestingly, Swami Aseemanand is a former RSS member who had given a signed confession about his involvement.

The court said that the country’s top anti-terror body, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had failed to prove anyone’s guilt. A bomb blast on May 18th, 2007 at Mecca Masjid in Hyderabad during Friday prayers left nine dead and over 50 injured.

Hyderabad Police transferred the case to CBI after the initial investigation. CBI filed a charge sheet and later NIA took over the case from the CBI in 2011. A total of 226 witnesses were examined during the trial and as many as 411 documents exhibited.
