As many as 1900 farmers have committed suicides inTelangana alone in the last two years. This is revealed in a report submitted by Chief Secretary S.P. Singh to the Rajya Sabha Committee on Government Assurances giving details of farmer suicides in 2015 and 2016.
Experts say that the actual numbers may be much bigger than what the government reported. Telangana is in the second position in farmers suicides across the country while Maharashtra is in the Top Position. This is an alarming situation in the new state.
It is also evident that there is little change on the ground for farmers even though the long cherished dream of Separate Telangana is attained. On the other side, KCR government had rolled out several schemes for the welfare of farmers but these figures indicate they did not help the farmers much.
