Reports are emerging that Central Water Commission has approved the Revised Estimates of Polavaram Project to the tune of 55,549 Crore. This needs the Ratification of the Union Finance Ministry and could be only accommodated in the Budget which will be put by the new government at the Center after the elections.
This Revised Estimates were intelligently approved just before the elections. This will ensure that BJP can ask for Votes in Andhra Pradesh. At the same time by keeping them pending for years, the BJP led Central Government did not give elbow space for the State Government to take up the project aggressively thereby denying Political mileage to Chandrababu Naidu.
But then, BJP’s commitment would have been appreciated if they put this in the recently tabled Budget. All the Political Parties including BJP have been blaming The State Government for increasing the Estimates from 16000 Crore to 55000 Crore. Now this Ratification by the CWC indicates that the State Government’s argument is right in this issue.
CWC did an extreme scrutiny of these estimates given the differences between TDP and BJP. After so many calculations, queries, and clarifications, Finally they are approved. Polavaram Project which is considered as the Lifeline of Andhra Pradesh is around 60% completed so far. It is a National Project and the Center has to fund it entirely.
