Andhra Pradesh Government had recently issued a G.O. to poll 6116.5 acres for facilitating Housing and House Sites in Vishakapatnam. The Government is also seeking lands including the assigned lands. However, the land pooling has come under strong opposition from the local farmers.
After the experiences of farmers in Amaravati, Vishakapatnam farmers say that they are not ready to trust any Governments and so are not keen on parting their lands for the Government promises. In complete contrast, farmers in Amaravati have given around 33,000 acres of land in Land Pooling without any hue and cue.
The Government may have to go for Land Acquisition which will be very costly. YSR Congress Government went back on all the commitments made to Amaravati farmers who participated in Land Pooling. Probably, the Government has killed a very successful model which should have put an end to land issues for the big Government Projects.
On the other side, there are reports that the farmers in Vishakapatnam are gearing up to take legal route after officials are forcing land pooling on them.
