Aadhar Linking Not Mandatory for Bank Accounts and Phone connectionsSupreme Court has given its judgment on the constitutional validity of the Aadhar. The Five Judges Bench which looked into the issue deemed it as constitutional. But then, the court has clarified that individuals and corporates can not collect Aadhar data which means linking of Aadhar to Phone Connections, School Admissions, and Bank Accounts.

The bench opined that Aadhar helps to weed out the fake beneficiaries which will, in turn, help the marginalized. However, no person will be denied benefits under social welfare scheme because of the failure of authentication through Aadhaar. At the same time, Aadhar is mandatory to be linked with PAN Account and for Tax Filing.

The judgment was spelled out after a marathon hearing that went on for 38 days, spanning four-and-half months. As many as 31 petitions, including one by former High Court judge K S Puttaswamy, have been filed in the matter. On the other side, the Central Government may override the ban on Bank Account linking and Phone Connections Linking by bringing a new law.
