Hyderabad, Hyderabad Open Defecation, Hyderabad Open Defecation Households, Hyderabad Open Defecation Ranking, Hyderabad Open Defecation Statistics While the leaders talk of making Hyderabad a Universal city, it may be difficult to believe that around 70,000 households in Hyderabad do not have individual toilets. This is the figure available with the state government itself. These houses are mostly in suburbs and residents relieve themselves in open places, drains or railway tracks.

The people are not helped under various schemes to build toilets as they are living in unauthorised colonies and notified or non-notified slums in GHMC limits. The Central government levies Swachch Bharat Cess and under the scheme, every household will get Rs 12,000 to construct toilets.

But then, when even cosmopolitan cities like Hyderabad also witness rampant open defecation, we can assume how success the scheme is and how the conditions are actually prevailing in Rural areas. It’s high time Telangana government and GHMC should focus on becoming an open defecation-free.
