173 pieces of exquisite jewelry of the royal Nizam family, are lying locked in Reserve Bank of India vaults in Delhi. The jewelry is valued at an officially recorded sum of Rs 218 crore. Today, rough estimates peg its value at a staggering Rs 50000 crore.

The Jewellery was bought by Government of India in 1995 for 218 Crore from Nizam’s Trust. Nizam Family and Telangana government want to bring them to Hyderabad and set up an own museum in the city. The city residents only got to see them twice in 2001 and 2006 when they were exhibited at Salar Jung Museum for brief periods.

Nizam family is even planning to knock on Supreme Court’s doors to facilitate the return of jewelry to Hyderabad. KCR repeatedly reiterated his respect to Nizams but then is yet to take up the issue with the Government of India.
