500 Days of Amaravati Protests: Farmers Become UntouchablesThe agitation of the farmers who have given their lands for Amaravati has been fighting against the Government’s decision to trifurcate the capital. The farmers have been on roads for 500 days now and no one really cared for them.

The Chief Minister did not even take time to call them and talk to them. All that they got are Lathi charges, Dragging on roads, arrests, etc. The ministers and ruling party leaders call them paid artists and hurl the worst form of abuses against them.

“We are almost like untouchables for the Government. Whenever the CM passes through our villages, our roads resemble war zones with Police guarding our houses not allowing us to come outside fearing protests. We could not hide tears when we see the incomplete buildings and neglected roads. They stand as silent witnesses to the Government treachery,” the farmers who lost their lands say.

Amaravati has an important lesson for the farmers not just of Andhra Pradesh. If you are transacting with Governments, keep it simple. Do not trust the Governments over the years. The Governments will have mood swings. The Governments do change and no one will come to the rescue,” political analysts say.

“We do not know how long the struggle goes on. We only hope the courts will save us,” the farmers say. The AP High Court is expected to begin the daily hearing of the petitions against three capitals soon.
