Successful films in any language are highly prone to remakes, and films in Telugu are no exception. One of the highly successful Telugu flicks of recent past is Maryada Ramanna, which is now being remade in Tamil. The film was already remade in Hindi as Son of Sardaar, but it was so badly executed despite its success at the box-office. In its Tamil remake, one of popular Tamil comedians, Santhanam is playing the lead.

While Maryada Ramanna was lauded for Sunil funny yet powerful performance, its remake in Hindi became more of a commercial entertainer. Santhanam has great fan following in Tamil, and is known for his razor-sharp one liner. The question is whether Santhanam kill the spirit of the original with his irritating dialogues.

I believe it’s high time we measure the quality of a remake with a yardstick because we can’t let the image of a film get sabotaged due to a remake.
