Post the release of the two Baahubali films, the way we look at event movies has changed. There are big ones for the respective industry, and then there are big-event pan-India movies. The openings and happenings of the latter belong to a separate category.

For the first time, in the post- Baahubali world, two big event movies are going to release on the same day. Sye Raa and War are the two pan-India films which are clashing on the most peaceful day of the year, October 2nd.

Individually, seen, the targets for the openings are different for Sye Raa as well as War. The former starring Megastar Chiranjeevi is going to take on the two Prabhas films Baahubali 2 and Saaho to be the biggest opener in Telugu states. The latter with Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff is aiming to come on top of Thugs of Hindostan and emerge as Bollywood’s number one.

For both, the films, especially War, the second position is a done deal. We have to only see if it passes Thugs of Hindostan at the end of the day or not. Similarly, Sye Raa reaching the third position is a confident expectation (unless it goes disastrously wrong with word of mouth). All eyes are on it to see whether it can go all the way to the top or beat Saaho comfortably or not.

However, when seen as pan-India flicks, the target becomes Baahubali 2, Saaho, and 2.0 which are the top three openers in India. Unlike those films, there is a clash here so getting a place in the top 2 (gross or net) is out of the question. In the best-case scenario, they might match or just pass 2.0 by a whisker.

The real interest, therefore, besides the individual openings is can Sye Raa and War combined beat that opening day total of Baahubali 2. Can they give India’s biggest box office day together? If both the movies perform to the optimum, there is a small chance of it happening.

The opening day “Nett” collections of Baahubali is 124 Cr. Will Sye Raa and War together surpass that? Watch this space!
