A total of four films have locked Sankranthi 2023 slot and they are Prabhas’s Adipurush, Chiranjeevi’s Nega154, Vijay’s Vaarasudu, and Vaishnav Tej’s as-yet-untitled mass film.
Coming to Adipurush, the film has too much Bollywood flavor. The director Om Raut is a Bollywood filmmaker, and the lead cast – Saif Ali Khan and Kriti Sanon are Bollywood actors. Moreover, after watching the tacky VFX in Bramhastra trailer, people are worried if team Adipurush is also using similar cartoonish VFX.
If Adipurush’s first look poster isn’t appealing enough to the Telugu audience, it will run the risk of losing nativity touch in the Telugu space. There is the obvious Prabhas factor, but the Telugu nativity is the key for the film if it is to make it big in the Telugu market.
More importantly for Adipurush, the film will come up against matinee idol Chiranjeevi‘s mass film, Mega154. The Chiranjeevi starrer is better suited for Sankranthi season release, given the mass entertainer theme.
If Adipurush doesn’t get the promotional campaign off to a blistering start right from the first look poster, the film might have to take a big blow at the Telugu box office next Sankranthi. That said, the film is based on Ramayan, so the content is seemingly universal. Everything depends on the execution.
