Venky Atluri, after disappointing everyone with Mr. Majnu and Rang De, has come up with Sir starring Dhanush. The film has turned out to be a big hit in Telugu states.
There is a talk on social media that Venky Atluri did injustice to Telugu heroes by offering them lackluster scripts to Telugu heroes and a decent script like Sir to a Tamil hero. Two mid-range Telugu heroes’ names are also being speculated and some are saying that they would have been a good choice for Dhanush’s role.
Sir worked because of the novel factor that Dhanush brought to the table. His goodwill also helped. Though the role didn’t offer him anything groundbreaking, Dhanush’s screen presence and his goodwill made all the difference.
If one of those two Telugu heroes were cast in Sir then the result would have backfired. One of them is just not capable of carrying that role, and casting the other one would have taken this film into a complete routine zone, despite him being a performer.
Sir is a nice one-time watch film with nothing out-of-the-box. And the power of Dhanush’s brand name is the biggest crowd-pulling factor for the film. The heart warming message and the good intent worked well in its favor.
With no big releases for a few weeks, Sir will surely turn out to be a huge money spinner for the makers and distributors.
