Top Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar was in Chennai recently to launch the Teleshopping channel, Big TV. He partners with businessman Raj Kundra and another actor Vikram on this. So while he was at it, he spoke about various other things which involved the remakes of South films.
Akki who has acted in many remakes suggested a very simple and effective method of remakes in Bollywood. He said that the makers just chop off good 30 minutes of film from the original to make it crisper. The audiences of Hindi cinema lack the patience unlike their Southern counterparts and hence it’s done that way, added the actor.
Finally he says that for some films he doesn’t even wait for them to become hits for him to remake. He signs them at the scripting stage itself and cited the example of Holiday (Thuppakki remake) for this. Going by his success rate with remakes he surely seems to know the recipe to success.
