Vijay-Deverakonda-Liger-BoycottBoycotting films is the newest trend in Bollywood now. Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha was boycotted by a section over his previous comments about not feeling safe in India. There are several other boycotting incidents, predominantly over the anti-nepotism narrative.

Now, Vijay Deverakonda’s Liger has fallen into Bollywood’s boycotting net. While this boycott trend can’t entirely influence the box office prospects of the film, it can bring a negative impression on the film, as a whole.

Recently, Vijay said “When Aamir Khan makes Laal Singh Chaddha as many as 2000 – 3000 families are being provided for.” This didn’t sit well with the Bollywood groups that boycotted the film. They say Vijay is emotionally blackmailing everyone by saying there are many other families involved and trying to take the blame off Aamir.

Another point that is being added here is that Liger is a Karan Johar production venture. There’s already a strong narrative against Johar, saying he only backs star kids and oppresses those who come from nothing.

All things combined, there’s a boycott-Liger movement emerging in Bollywood. But it needs to be noted that these boycott movements won’t have much of an impact if the film comes with the right content and caters to the target audience. If the talk is right and the film is lapped up by the masses, it can indeed set the box office on fire.

Now, in response to the negative trend, Vijay’s followers are trending the hashtags “I Support Liger” and “Unstoppable Liger”.
