vidyullekha ramanComedy in our films is mostly like insulting the physical appearance of the artists who play comic roles in the films. For example, whenever a hero has a comedian as a friend in his group, he calls them by names like ‘Arey Karrodaa!’, ‘Chimpanji’, ‘Taaru dabba’, ‘Banda’ etc.

Upcoming female comedian who is considered the next Kovail Sarala, Vidyullekha Raman sees this body shaming as an offence. Though this is how comedy is created on physical appearances, she feels hurt for the way our film makers see the comedians. In Suriya’s ‘Mass’, the hero addresses her as ‘Kung Fu Panda’ which she considers cheap comedy.

It’s not only Vidyllekha, even Geeta Singh who was a bit on heavier side had to accept heavy body shaming as comedy in films. But to be in the industry, they have no option but to accept such roles which offend them but keep them going. Vidyullekha Raman is presently doing both supporting roles and also as a comedienne in Telugu and Tamil films.
