Not that a powerful production or distribution backing is necessary for a star to be number 1, but it is always a huge plus in a competitive industry like Telugu cinema where there are so many stars. Superstar Mahesh Babu enjoyed it with 14 Reels Entertainment and was almost christened the number 1 star. Will it be the turn of Young Rebel Star Prabhas to make a claim next?
As it is, Prabhas could be called the number 1, if one were to look at the numbers. He has everything in his name. So, what is preventing him to be named the number one star? Well, it is due to an essential determinant called ‘repetition,’ and of course, there is the SS Rajamouli factor.
A star has to ‘repeat’ top openings all the time, and with the right talk, he has to take the movie to the highest total. In his sixteen-year-old career, Prabhas has never got an opening day record barring the two Baahubali movies. Also, barring Mirchi no film of Prabhas has ever been in the all-time top 10 ‘Hit’ list. Even Mirchi broke into the top 5 at the fifth position. It is primarily the reason why Prabhas was, and is, not considered for the top spot.
But all that would be changed starting from Saaho, and it is where UV Creations come into prominence. UV Creations which is seen as a home banner of Prabhas is silently making inroads in distribution. As a production house, they get the best promotions and release for their movies. Their track record barring a minor blip in Jil is fantastic with Bhaagamathie being the latest big success.
Prabhas’s Saaho will be their next big release. It is helmed by a one film old director. Imagine Saaho breaking the opening day record of Baahubali 2? If UV Creations maintain their current standards and don’t give a shock ala Agnyaathavasi, it is precisely what will be in store for a Sankranthi 2019 release.
And that’s how the conversation regarding Prabhas as new number 1 would begin. The follow-up film on the same banner should seal the deal, ideally, as the biggest movie then would be a multi-starrer. Let’s see if UV Creations manage to take the star to the top or are only efficient in cashing the Young Rebel Star’s current craze?
