No Indian film could ever create a raging phenomena in the west like the way Rajamouli’s RRR did. The fact that a section of the white folk were pushing RRR for Oscars clearly implies the same. RRR is one of the biggest global blockbusters in recent times.
Coming to the point, the Indian Film Federation has filed its official entry for the Oscars and it’s an unknown Gujarati film titled Chhello Show. The federation picked this Gujarati film over RRR.
But it isn’t all over for the Rajamouli directorial. The film can still have a shot at the Oscars if the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences jury feels the film needs to be considered. But this is rather a long shot.
Now that the Indian jury has picked some unknown film over RRR, there are several contradictory arguments on social media.
“RRR was India’s best bet at the Oscars. It is already a global blockbuster with even the Western folk going wild over it. But the Indian jury has messed it all up by picking an unknown film that has no chance of even coming close to the award. This is disappointing,” many opine.
Notably, Variety magazine has already listed Jr NTR and Ram Charan as the probables for the Best Actor Award at the Oscars. At a time when expectations were building on RRR for Oscars, Indian Film Federation’s move has come as a rude shock.
