The title and motion poster of the biopic of legendary Sri Lankan cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan is out. The name of the movie is the same as speculated, 800. The ‘motion poster’ reveals much more and leaves one awestruck at the end.

First, let’s talk about the end, which has got everyone stunned. An image of Vijay Sethupathi is showcased at the end which bears an uncanny resemblance with Muttiah Muralitharan. Many were initially confused if it was the cricketer or the actor. It is that close.

The motion poster also highlights in its small duration what the biopic will be about. If one thought what else could be in the cricketer’s career apart from his sports achievements, there is a lot based on the animation in the motion poster. The religious, political and ‘chucking’ episode could provide enough fodder for controversy.

What it also does is add some fire to the brewing controversy. There has been an increasing pressure on Vijay Sethupathi (in the lead up to the announcement) to avoid doing the biopic. It is because the Murali is a supporter of the regime and politics which are hated by the Tamil Eelam community.

MS Sripathy directs 800. The regular shoot of the movie will commence in early 2021, and the release is planned in the second half of the year. Movie Train Motion Pictures and Dar Motion Pictures jointly produce the biopic.
