Bollywood is going through its worst phase, with many of the big-budget films falling flat on their faces.
83, Jersey, Runway34, Jayeshbhai Jordaar, Heropanti 2, and even the 300-crore Samrat Prithviraj turned out to be damp squibs. Only The Kashmir Files and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 turned out to be blockbusters. Even the last week’s much-hyped Jugg Jug Jeeyo turned out to be an average affair.
But things are expected to change as most of these releases are from the pre-pandemic quota, and a fresh lease of films is expected to arrive in 2023.
Trade is betting big on a few films, which are expected to open in the range of 40 crore+ on their opening day. The films are Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, Salman Khan’s Tiger 3, Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal, Hrithik Roshan’s Fighter, and SRK-Atlee’s Jawan.
But there are two Tollywood films also on the list that the Bollywood trade is gung-ho about. Prabhas‘ mythological spectacle Adipurush and Allu Arjun‘s much-awaited Pushpa. These two films are expected to open as big as or even bigger than the above-mentioned films.
Tollywood films are single-handedly ruling the Indian film industry now, with a gross of 1800 crores in the first six months of 2022. The dominance is expected to continue in 2023 as well.
