After a long time, Telugu cinema is going to witness a near head-on clash among top stars. Currently, there is a day gap, but the buzz in the industry suggests a change that could lead to a ‘direct clash’.
Whatever may be the case, Superstar Mahesh Babu and Stylish Star Allu Arjun, are going to arrive within a short gap. But, before that happens, we would like to present a picture of how the two have fared in the past, under similar circumstances. Did they clash or if they came in the same season and who emerged as the winner?
Since the debut of Allu Arjun, in 2003, only on four occasions did his movie release in the same season or came close on the heels of Mahesh Babu starrer. The first one was in 2003 itself when Gangotri and Nijam arrived in the same summer period. The winner was Allu Arjun by quite a margin.
The rest of the three occasions are Arya and Nani in 2004, Sarrainodu and Brahmotsavam in summer of 2016, and finally Naa Peru Surya and Bharat Ane Nenu in summer 2018.
The closest a Mahesh Babu film came clashing with Allu Arjun flick was in 2004 when Arya and Nani arrived within a week of each other. Once again, the winner was Allu Arjun by a mile. It was the same case in summer 2016 as well.
The only occasion, in the past, when Mahesh Babu had the upper hand over Allu Arjun starrer coming in the same season was summer of 2018 when Bharat Ane Nenu and Naa Peru Surya hit the screens. Initially, both the movies were locked for the same date, April 27th, but eventually, one preponed by a week and other postponed by a week.
The change in date, especially from Allu Arjun suggested a weaker product, and that’s how it eventually turned out. With Ala Vaikunthapurramulo the star seems to be adamant for a clash. It means either he is over-confident or knows what’s in store. If it’s the latter, then rest assured the final tally of clash would read 4-1.
With Mahesh Babu clashes are not a new thing as most of his films targeting festival period had to clash. He has won a few battles and equally lost. Let us see what is in store for him this time.
