After a decent weekend, the film Majnu has slowed down considerably at the box office. The signs were evident in the weekend itself but things became clearer with the passing of each day. So where did things go wrong?
People are already dissecting the box office performance and the primary reason said for the under performance is the number of films. As many know already, Majnu is the fifth release of Nani in a stretch of an year and a half. But can this be taken entirely as a reason, not really and here’s why?
Doing back to back films is not a problem, the actor is going to have another film in three months. The problem is with the content which is not good all the times. Sometimes average movies pay well but that won’t be the case all the time, especially when doing back to back films. People have the option to wait for the next one on the way. It is always the content which decides the fate of a film. A less deserving film could be big at times due to the timing of the release, but a good film will always find a way.
Nani, coming off films like Bhale Bhale Magadivoi and Gentleman etc should look for stronger and impactful content within the commercial space. Reducing films just for the sake wouldn’t be a solution rather it would only increase pressure and make average products look even weaker than what it is today. It could, in fact, become a setback. Let’s see what kind of correction he opts for.
