The USA box office two new notable releases this weekend and they are Akhil Akkineni’s Agent and Ponniyin Selvan 2. Last week’s release, Virupaksha is also on a notable run at the USA box office.
Agent has collected a mere $150K from the premieres and day 1 which is a very poor number. With the poor reviews and weak word of mouth, the trajectory will only be downward from here.
At this rate, the film is certainly on course to become a shockingly huge loss venture for those involved. The breakeven mark is said to be $800K+ and with this poor start, the film hasn’t shown any signs of getting anywhere near that. The degree of the losses can be assessed after the opening weekend collections are out.
Ponniyin Selvan has registered a very good start at the USA box office with $1.7 million from premieres and day 1. This is lesser that the tally of PS1 which made $2.1 million, but nevertheless a good start. With a favorable word of mouth, the film is expected to have a very encouraging opening weekend at the USA box office.
As for Virupaksha, the film added a handsome $60K on Friday, taking the tally to $1.07 million. It is the biggest hit for SDT in USA and also his first $1 million film.
