Mahesh Babu Jr NTR Ram Charan On VacationEvery few years, the benchmarks for films, the milestones to reach are reset. The year 2018 is such a year for the US market. New parameters have been set for the movies.

Since the two Baahubali movies performed out of charts, the landmarks are excluding those two. Besides Baahubali 1 and 2, we have had only five films crossing the 2 Million in the last three years, Srimanthudu (2015), Nannaku Prematho and A Aa in 2016, Khaidi No 150 and Fidaa in 2017. The expansion of the market was already there, only that 2018 has made it obvious.

In the first five months alone we are looking at four movies crossing the 2 Million. And there are two more in the waiting, at the least. What is the critical thing to notice and why it makes 2018 the landmark year is a disaster like Agnyaathavasi and a pure word of mouth movie Mahanati (not yet but on the way) making it to the club?

Sure not all disaster movies would pass the 2 Million, but an average film from top star needs to cross it. A hit movie has to meet the “3 Million” deadline now. These numbers will be the new norm going forward. It also highlights the massive earning potential for high concept and high rated small to medium budget films. Let us see if any such movie springs a surprise.
