Tollywood gets inspiration from Bollywood

Recently, Bollywood saw a lot of Telugu superhits remade into blockbuster Hindi films. Taking a cue from this new trend, Tollywood filmmakers are now remaking superhit Bollywood movies into their Telugu version. Some of these remakes include Ajay Devgn and Abhishek-starrer Bol Bachchan where Venkatesh and Ram are playing the lead, Telugu remake of Band Baja Baarat with Nani as well as Mr Pelli Koduku, the Tollywood adaptation of Tanu weds Manu where Sunil and Isha Chawla are reprising the roles of Madhavan and Kangana Ranaut.

However, actors who are involved in the remakes do not seem to agree with this generalization. Actor Sunil says, “The most important thing any actor looks for when listening to a script is, ‘Will the plot work?’ The question of it being a remake or an original idea comes later. Tanu weds Mannu offers a very relatable but funny take on the phenomenon of NRI grooms coming back to India to look for their bride and that’s what clinched it for me.”
