'That-Is-Mahalakshmi'-TamannaahIt was meant for a theatrical release. There was also decent curiosity surrounding the project owing to its fabulous original source. There were multiple versions of it to make a bountiful. Yet, the film couldn’t get off the block.

We are talking about the long-forgotten film, That Is Mahalakshmi. The film is a remake of Kangana Ranaut’s sleeper blockbuster success, Queen. Tamannaah essayed the lead in Telugu. There were three other versions, starring Kajal, Manjima Mohan and Parul Yadav in Tamil, Malayalam and Kananda respectively.

Unfortunately, none of the films could hit the screens as anticipated. This despite a couple of versions garnering enough attention online due to the crazy heroines involved.

Today, with the OTT segment booming like never before, That Is Mahalakshmi could be an ideal release. In fact, it would be the same for all other versions (Paris Paris –Tamil, Zam Zam – Malayalam, Butterfly – Kannada), as well. Prashanth Varma of Awe fame directed the Telugu remake.

A further strong case is made by the successful release of female-oriented flicks digitally, recently. It makes one wonder what could be the difficulty behind the makers not to give it a shot? It looks like a golden opportunity to recover the investment.
