Theatres in US, UK to Sell $3 TicketsWatching a movie in a theatre has probably been the most exciting and most enticing past-time of the century. But then came the pandemic, and everything changed. Well, now, the latest trick to pull back audiences to theatres is the National Cinema Day that will be held on September 3, 2022, across 30,000 participating screens in the US.

Little did one imagine that the movie-going audiences, who loved watching their matinee idols in luxurious dim-lit theatres on large screens, would begin to watch them at home by taking an annual subscription on streaming channels.

But in a span of two years, everything changed for the movie world, and just like the doomsday movies, they spin out from time to time and have become a virtual reality for the industry at large. The summer rush has lulled, and already this past weekend has seen horrible collections with three duds.

To spruce up the situation and create solace for the cinema industry in the US, The Cinema Foundation, a non-profit branch of the National Association of Theatre Owners, announced the September 3 event. For the unversed, there are about 47,000 screens across the country, and 30,000 screens in various locations are participating on the day.

Like everything in the US, an offer is irresistible to the consumers at large and pinning on this national weakness, the theatres will be selling movie tickets for $3 throughout the day. The Cinema Foundation says it is a sort of saying ‘thank you’ to the audiences who fed the industry for so many years and probably will for many more decades.

Meanwhile, the UK cinemas have also set their National Cinema Day event on Sep 3. So, check out the details at your closest cinemas and enjoy the day munching on some crunchy popcorn.
