Theatres-in-AP-to-shut-down

In the wake of upcoming elections in Andhra and Telangana, cinema theatres are expected to be shut on the two days of polling – April 30 and May 7. All theatres in the state are expected to be shut on these two days to ensure smooth polling. Since the political situation is very sensitive in the state, theatre owners fear that it’s best to pull down the shutters on these two days.

Moreover, this is also being done to encourage voting in large number. All workers from theatres should also go out and vote. Even the Tamil film industry was supposed to be shut down on April 24 for elections, but most theatre halls were functioning. It makes sense to shut down cinema halls to exercise everybody to vote but how much of damage will that have on these halls who have to run everyday.

No official word has come in on this matter from the film industry or the election commission requesting for shut down of cinema halls.
