It was just a matter of days, and it has finally happened now. RRR is the new Industry Hit as far as Telugu cinema is considered. The movie has crossed worldwide Baahubali 2 numbers (only Telugu) to emerge as a new Industry Hit. Overall (including all languages), RRR is next only to Baahubali 2.
RRR’s Industry Hit puts Rajamouli firmly at the number one spot in Telugu cinema. He is the top star right now and bigger than anyone. That he enjoys pan-India stardom is further icing on the cake.
If one still has doubts, just look at the track record. SS Rajamouli’s last three movies, Baahubali, Baahubali 2 and RRR, are Industry Hits in Telugu. No one in Telugu cinema has achieved this feat with back-to-back movies. Previously, some stars and directors have had Industry Hits, but none did it with consecutive films. It is where Rajamouli separates from the rest, like the margin of his Industry Hits.
Just look at RRR stars, who are huge on their own, Ram Charan has two Industry Hits, and both happen to be with SS Rajamouli. As far as Jr NTR is considered, RRR is the first indisputable in his career after Simhadri.
Leaving Telugu cinema, one can only think of Superstar Rajinikanth and Aamir Khan looking at their last decade run. And they do have such a feat, Rajinikanth and Aamir Khan have five Industry Hits, but the former misses the consecutive factor. Aamir Khan is the only star equalling Rajamouli’s feat with three back to back films.
The stats show how rare it is and why it is so special. Even Rajamouli might find it hard to get another one. The expectations reach an enormous level. It is why stars (or directors) choose smaller projects in between. But, if anyone has a semblance of chance, Rajamouli is the one. The never before Industry Hits record will grow further to an unimaginable level if he achieves it.
