As we reported before the release, Mahanati was looking at a decent opening and heavily dependent on the talk for the uptick. Well, it has played out correctly as predicted.
Mahanati opened to an average response in the morning shows, but with the strong word of mouth coming out from early shows, there was a huge pick up in the evening shows. The theatres got packed, and extra screenings were added in many places.
In the US, the Tuesday premiere coupled with good talk has led to a very healthy number. Overall, thanks to the US boost and evening surge, the opening day has become good. The second and third day will see a steady inflow due to the mid-week release. The real kick-in in collections would happen over the weekend when things are expected to be in overdrive.
