Gopi-sundarGopi Sundar has composed music for Nikhil-Anupama Parameshwaran’s newly released film 18 Pages. Irrespective of the film’s content or its BO fate, the music of the film has won brownie points from the audience and critics. Many feel Gopi Sundar has proven himself once again.

Originally from the Malayalam industry, he composed music for Malli Malli Idi Rani Roju and Bhale Bhale Magadivoy in Telugu. While he is a big name in the Malayalam film industry, he won recognition with Geetha Govindam. He also delivered quality albums for films like Ninnu Kori, Majili, and Most Eligible Bachelor.

He has won a National Award, Kerala State Film Award, and Filmfare Awards South.

Despite being so accomplished, he is not being offered big projects with star heroes.

Many in the industry feel the main reason behind this is Gopi Sundar’s lack of lobbying power with the local Tollywood biggies like Thaman and Devi Sri Prasad. The talk in the industry is that these two composers maintain proximity with big stars which helps them bag big films.

Despite delivering poor output most of the time, only these two music directors are being signed for the biggies, whereas talented and unexplored music directors like Gopi Sundar have been relegated to composing music for small and medium-budget films.

In the past also, Anup Rubens was expected to become one of the top music directors after scoring memorable music for films like Manam, but today he is nowhere to be seen.

If Gopi Sundar has to hit big times, Telugu film insiders feel, he has to learn the trick of pleasing the biggies. Also, the industry must take notice of his talent and offer him some big projects.
