Nani -Jersey CollectionsThe Natural Star Nani’s latest release Jersey opened with rave reviews. It came with decent buzz and combined with the holiday release and talk, the opening day was good.

However, the actual problem has started from the second day itself. The numbers coming in showed a steady run, but the big spike was missing. A jump reflecting the extremely positive critical reception, and word of mouth was not visible.

The overall weekend worldwide number for Jersey is close to 16 Cr. It is good, no doubt but at the same time, it is in a similar range to some of the past films of Nani which had far lesser ratings and talk. In other words, ideally, Jersey should have gone past them comfortably and set good margin. It hasn’t happened. The US reception, therefore, the most surprising. But, more about that later.

Multiple reasons are heard for the lack of big jump. The most talked about is the genre and lack of repeat value. For the masses, especially, one needs to consider the possibility that word of mouth might not be the same.

Jersey needs to do more than 26 Cr to be considered a success. The chances of that happening look very bright, but reaching 30 Cr mark looks tough, at the moment, despite lack of new releases for a week. Still, a movie like Jersey is beyond numbers for Nani. Even if it underperforms now, and the history has taught us anything in the film industry, a more significant compensation would be visible in any of the upcoming projects, sooner rather than later.
