After Rajiv Gandhi’s demise necessitated elections again in 1991, Krishna contested from Eluru again and lost the election. From there on, he started to move away from politics. He stated that he lost interest in politics after the passing of Rajiv Gandhi.

Later, Krishna pledged support to YS Rajasekhar Reddy and in turn, to Congress again. But after YSR’s passing in 2009, Krishna decided to call it quits for politics and this marked the end of his political career.
