OTT is a tough nut to crack. Not many South Indian films which premiered directly on OTT have fared well. But Suriya is one exception. Both his outings Soorarai Pottru and Jai Bham proved to be successful ventures.
With Jai Bhim, Suriya has shown how to make money with OTT projects. The film was apparently shot on a shoestring budget and that is understandable, given the theme. Suriya then made a huge profit by reportedly selling the film to Amazon Prime for as much as Rs 45 crores.
Big budgets and stellar VFX works amount to near nothing on OTT. Content is the only thing that helps OTT films. Suriya understood the same and made Jai Bhim a hard-hitting and content-driven film on a rather low budget. He then sold the film to Amazon Prime for a whopping price.
Jai Bhim is a rustic social drama that was almost entirely shot in rural locales. The film is based on the atrocities on the tribal population in rural pockets of Tamil Nadu. The film is directed by TJ Gnanavel.
